At Key Stage 2 pupils will begin to adopt a more sophisticated approach to the core and foundation subjects.
In History, the requirement to study topics such as the Anglo-Saxon and Scots invasions and the Viking and Roman occupations creates many opportunities for school trips to some of the most important historical sites in the world, and a great variety of brilliant museums. There will always be a venue close by!
History trips can also be used in KS2 to develop pupils' 'use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge', one of the aims of the KS2 Geography curriculum. Such activities could also be linked to the national curriculum requirement to 'take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team'.
But there are many other options for accessing imaginative and challenging activities from specialist providers. Some schools also like to organise short residential visits at for pupils at KS2 level to give classes a taster of new activities and team-working away from usual environments and families.

Clacton Pier is home to a whole range of attractions. It is a modern, relatively vibrant amusement park and theme park combined into one big attraction. Clacton Pier is almost unique in the sense that there are some rides as you first enter and then the rest are dotted throughout the length of the pier. So you can just dip in and out of the fairground part of the pier.

Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre is an ideal place for people to take part in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities. Our lake has 40 acres of water with two islands situated in Fairlop Waters Country Park delivering beautiful natural surroundings. An open aspect across Fairlop Plain ensures a clean breeze for sailors.
1, 3 and 5 metre diving boards. The site also offers fun swims, swimming lessons, diving and other exciting activities in its two pools, as well as other sporting opportunities.
In the sports hall one can choose from badminton, short tennis, indoor football and basketball as well as the centre offering two squash courts.
ESSA Water Activities Centre is a voluntary organisation and is operated by crew who hold all the necessary qualifications. The sailing base and courses are suited to people of all ages, helping you to achieve qualifications in may water based activities as well as providing somewhere for people to just have fun on the water.

Landguard Fort is the site of the last opposed seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines. The current fort was built in the 18th century, and modified in the 19th century with substantial additional 19th-20th century outside batteries.

A pretty four-arched late medieval bridge, spanning the River Kennett on the old route from Cambridge to Bury St Edmunds.
The bridge is built of flint and stone rubble, with plain parapets, and the edges of the arches are made of brick. Pointed arch shapes like these were constructed using wooden formers to support and shape them, and were not used after the 15th century.
The historic racing town of Newmarket in Suffolk is home to the National Horseracing museum, housed in the buildings that were once known as the Subscription Rooms which were a focal point of Newmarket and consequently are steeped in history

Elveden Forest is set in over 400 acres of stunning forest in delightful rural Suffolk, which inspires an outdoor lifestyle. Aldeburgh Yacht Club, situated on the Suffolk coast, is a large and thriving club catering for all aspects of sailing. Located between the sea and the River Alde one mile south of the town of Aldeburgh the Club is able to organise racing on the river and, for dinghy open meetings and certain other events, on the sea.
Lydia Eva is the last steam drifter and the last boat to have been constructed in the ship yard in Kings Lynn. Over 1000 of these fishing vessels worked out of Yarmouth in the 1920s.
On-board displays tell the story of the Lydia Eva and the East Coast herring fishing industry.
Sailcraft operates in the sheltered waters of Brancaster Statthe Harbour south of Scolt Head Island surrounded in marches and creeks. Suitable for both beginners and experienced sailors alike the bay offers a unique boating area for a variety of water sports activities.
NSSA is affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association, the sport’s governing body, and is a Recognised Teaching Establishment. We run courses for all abilities from complete beginner through to advanced levels including Instructor Training.
