University of Aberdeen, Zoology Museum
The museum’s displays are worldwide in scope, from protozoa to the great whales, including taxidermy, skeletal material, study skins, fluid-preserved specimens and models. Visitors are warmly welcomed to the museum, and there is no charge for admission, though we ask that children are accompanied by a responsible adult.
Aberdeen University has the only large, international collection of zoological specimens in the north of Scotland. The Zoology Museum’s collections are worldwide in scope and cover more than 200 years of biological study at the University. Highlights on display include a stuffed Bengal tiger, great ape skeletons, and historic blue whale limbs and whale skeletons.
If you have enquiries, offers of donations or specimens for identification, please contact the museums before you visit. Visits by schools and other organised groups to the Zoology Museum are not currently possible, but you should contact the Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre for information about their activities.
