Tower Bridge

A visit to Tower Bridge Exhibition is the most exciting way to explore and experience the most famous Bridge in the world. Within the Bridge's iconic structure and magnificent Victorian Engine rooms there is plenty to see and do!

After watching a new animated video about why Tower Bridge was built, guests can walk into the high level Walkways, 42 metres above the River Thames. This offers visitors the chance to admire stunning panoramic views of London, spying such popular landmarks as St Paul's Cathedral and the Monument to the west and St Katharine Docks leading to Canary Wharf to the east.

The East Walkway houses the exhibition 'Great Bridges of the World' - this photographic exhibition features over 20 Bridges, each of which represents a breathtaking feat of engineering. In the south tower a short video shows the construction of the Bridge, before guests proceed to the West Walkway where they can view our NEW stylish exhibition, 'The Sixties'. Here, visitors can admire stunning photographs of the people, places, events and designs that epitomise this revolutionary decade.

Continue on to the original lifting machinery in the Victorian Engine Rooms, complete with sounds and smells that transport you back in time to the Bridge's origins. You will also experience a virtual Bridge lift, providing you with a unique view of the Bascules being raised. And currently on display is 'Art at the Bridge #5', our latest exhibition in partnership with Southwark Arts Forum.

Tower Bridge houses three unique venues; the award-winning high level Walkways, the luxurious North Tower Lounge and the majestic Victorian Engine Rooms.

Working with local teachers, Tower Bridge's new learning programme aligns with the national curriculum and is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, but can be adapted to younger or older children. Supported by a new dedicated facility, the Bridge Master’s Learning Centre, it offers three FREE cross-curricular workshops, delivered by our experienced learning and community engagement team:

• Local history and geography - Students will explore the growth of the local area (Pool of London – Southwark and Tower Hamlets), investigating the link between the river and the businesses and communities that developed around it and using historical sources to discover why the bridge was built.
• STEM - Examining the processes involved in opening the Bridge, from Victorian steam engineering to modern day electronics, demonstrating the progression of techniques and technology over the last 120 years. Students will use coding to raise a 3D printed model of the Bridge’s bascules demonstrating this engineering marvel.
