Flame gasworks is Ireland's sole surviving coal gasworks and is one of only three left in the British Isles. Opened in 1855, it supplied Carrickfergus with gas until 1965 and was closed in 1987. It is now fully restored and was reopened as a visitor and educational attraction in August 2002.

At Key Stage 5, pupils have a range of options available to them; A Levels, Baccalaureates (both English and International), BTECs and Scottish Higher National Certificates/Diplomas are just some of the qualifications open to the 17-18 age-group.
School trips can become even more tailored to suit interests at this level as student groups become smaller and more specialised. For example, one of the ultimate visits for sixth form scientists would be to the Cern Centre (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) near Geneva, where scientists are daily investigating the fundamental structure of the universe.

Saddlescombe farm is a hidden gem on the South Downs Way. Near Devil's Dyke in West Sussex, the hamlet is only five miles from the seaside city of Brighton.
Documented in the Domesday Book, this unique example of a Downland farm recounts what life was really like throughout the last 1,000 years. Intriguingly, it was, even once home to the Knights Templar.

East Lothian Yacht Club was founded in 1928, initially renting the upstairs of the Fishermen's Hall as its base (next door to the present clubhouse). In 1931 the club moved to its present place, an old granary built circa 1802, which it leased from the Hamilton Dalrymple family. This is a grade 'B' listed building. Later the club leased the lower store from the Town Council.
