New Victoria Theatre

New Victoria Theatre

The New Vic is Staffordshire's award-winning theatre-in-the-round.

The New Vic delivers a programme of international-class work made with local audiences in mind.  And, through an extensive community involvement, is helping to make our community a better, safer and more inspiring place to live and work.

Our home is the New Vic Theatre, the regional producing theatre for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.  We make around eight major theatre productions each year and, as a theatre-in-the-round, have a special role in delivering Arts Council England’s strategy for theatre.

We are an efficient and effective social enterprise and we recognise our responsibility to provide tangible returns for the public investment we receive.  We actively support the economic, cultural, educational and social priorities of a wide range of national and regional agencies through our professional theatre productions and award-winning community programmes.

Schools

At New Vic Education we have activities for every age from four years-old and upwards. You don’t need any experience and everyone is welcome. From Youth Theatre to groups for older adults, holiday projects and family learning, come and get involved!

You can also contact us to find out more about our programme for schools and colleges and our bespoke workshops for your group.

For Education

New Vic Education works with Education providers, from nurseries to universities, using drama as means of learning and developing key skills.

Activity Days

For a single class or across a year group. Included in your visit will be a backstage tour. A chance to meet some of the creative staff involved in our work, a practical drama workshop focusing on a theme of your choice and an additional activity based on our work – looking at literacy through the production of marketing materials for example.

Tours

A backstage tour provides rare insights into the world of theatre. From the set design workshops to the (secret!) trap doors and fascinating costumes, learn more about a world normally hidden from view. These tours are also useful for pupils and students wishing to find out more about the world of work and the professions involved in theatre-making. WE also provide tours for clubs and community groups. Contact us to arrange your behind the scenes visit.

Production workshops

Production workshops offer valuable insights into the work on the New Vic stage. These include our programme for primary schools each Christmas (including teachers’ activity pack) along with workshops and Play Days for older students attending productions throughout the year. Workshops can take place in school or at the New Vic as part of your visit.

Cross Curricular Learning

New Vic Education is committed to developing creativity across the curriculum. We provide work to support Literacy, History, Science, Citizenship and PSHE and in a variety of settings, often helping students to reengage with their learning. We are working with our partners in education to build knowledge and skills through imagination and practical experience.

Tale Trail

Your nursery may be interested in our annual Christmas story-telling installation – Tale Trail. An interactive and magical experience, it allows very young children, their teachers and carers to experience the environment and characters involved in our main house production. Journeys to make, problems to solve and a feast for the senses!

Bespoke projects for your school or group

New Vic Education regularly works with partners to design and deliver projects for their own particular needs. Why not talk to us about your ambitions for your students or group and we’ll help you achieve them.
