Housing a variety of exhibitions including about the city of Liverpool, Mondrian and his art studio and a range of temporary exhibits, there is plenty to see at Tate Liverpool.

School visits are free. There is a charge for special exhibitions and some school activities in the gallery.

Making Connections

New Primary Resource for Key Stage 2

This free, bookable resource delivers a stress-free self-programmed visit to Tate Liverpool accommodating a class of up to 35 Key Stage 2 pupils. Making Connections provides resources and guidance for a 90 minute session in our current Collection Display, Constellations on the first and second floors of the gallery. 

There are four activities:

  • Making connections

  • Making Art together

  • Making my own view

  • Making up stories

Book your visit

All groups must book in advance, whether visiting independently or taking part in a Tate-led session

The maximum size of a visiting school group is 60 students. Please split larger groups of students into groups of about 20 to walk around the gallery.

Please also advise us of any gallery activities you would like to take part in (see below) and book the cloakroom and packed-lunch room if required.

When you book a visit, please advise us of any specific access requirements members of your group may have (for example if they are are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hearing impaired, wheelchair users or in need of mobility support, or have a learning disability).

Tate led-sessions

We run a selection of sessions and workshops for school groups, which you can book in advance of your visit.

Visit an Exhibition

A special school group price for exhibitions is available if you book and pay at least two weeks in advance.

Group supervision and safety

Adult supervision is required at all times with the following adult-to-student ratios:

  • 1:5 for under 5s

  • 1:10 for 6–11 year-olds

  • 1:15 for 12–16 year-olds

  • 1:20 for 16–18 year-olds

Please note that teachers are responsible for students’ behaviour and safety at all times. All group leaders should carry out their own risk assessment prior to their visit. At no stage can Tate assume the formal duty of care on behalf of teachers.

Preliminary visit to the gallery

We strongly recommend you visit Tate Liverpool in advance to check the suitability of the artworks for your group. You can also use our online resources to plan your visit to the gallery.

If you are planning a visit to a special exhibition and would like to make a preliminary visit please contact us arrange a complementary ticket.

Artworks can be taken off display at short notice. If you are visiting to see a particular work please check it will be on display.
