Dartmoor Zoological Park
Dartmoor Zoological Park
Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with some stunning views of the surrounding countryside, Dartmoor Zoological Park is a unique family owned zoo with a fantastic collection of animals.
Our animal attractions include tigers, lion, lynx, cheetah, bears, wolves, tapir, capybara, racoons, meerkats, monkeys, a fantastic collection of bugs and reptiles and much more making Dartmoor Zoo a unique family attraction within easy reach of Plymouth.
We work very hard to preserve our beautiful woodland environment. As a consequence we have plenty of natural open spaces where the kids can run free. Visitors are also very welcome to bring a picnic and simply enjoy the surroundings.
Follow the daily timetable of events including public talks at feeding times and animal encounters, with falconry displays and kids activities during the holidays such as quiz-trails and face-painting.
Education
Dartmoor Zoo is an Educational Institution; a place where students can explore and enjoy, learn and get closer than ever to our animals. With new educational workshops tailored specifically to the new primary and secondary curriculum, DZP is the perfect educational day out.
We have the largest collection of endangered big cats in the South West. Here, we are able to draw on a rich seam of real-world examples to achieve specific learning objectives dictated by the curriculum.
Educational days out at DZP are not just an enjoyable excursion for children and teachers (though they are that too), they really can be a life-changing introduction in to the world’s ecology, sewing seeds of enthusiasm for engaging with the environment in the future.
Dartmoor Zoo is purpose-built for switching on young minds. It’s one of the things we do best.
Our award-winning Education Team strive to make sure that educational day trips are packed with exciting and engaging activities.
In addition to meeting curricula requirements from Early Years to Post 16, we also offer a comprehensive selection ofExtracurricular Programmes such as DZP Rangers for younger students and the Rangers Academy for those already making plans for a career in animal care. You can even have the kids stay overnight with our fantastic Snooze at the Zoo programme.
Other unique educational experiences include the Dissection Theatre where students of all ages can witness a full-body large animal dissection and our award-winning Enterprise Challenge which pits teams of students against each other taking on the role of zoo development team to add a new species to the Dartmoor Zoo collection.
