The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom have launched Resource Packs, to help you to fill the school year with some alternative and exciting lessons and activities. The Resource Packs are collections of lesson plans for curriculum focused learning outside the classroom. Each pack contains six lesson plans, a case study of a project to inspire and general hints, tips and resources. You will have a full list of what equipment is required, the best types of venue for each activity and ways to vary the plans up and down in scale. The packs are mixture of classes which can be delivered close to home on the school site and classes which can be staged further afield.
The packs have been designed to be easy to deliver, with readily accessible and minimal resources in addition to being super flexible to meet the need and abilities of your students. Activities include, exploring adjectives and adverbs in an outdoor setting, encountering history in the school garden and investigating bird beaks to understand evolution and inheritance.
The strong emphasis on the importance of first-hand practical experiences, real world application of knowledge and the development of a love of learning in the national curriculum, highlight the importance of exploring the world beyond the classroom with your pupils. The programme of study for science, for example, states that, “Most of the learning about science should be done through the use of first-hand practical experiences”. LOtC Resource Packs support you in delivering these objectives, giving you ideas for how to execute the needs of the curriculum outside the classroom, and giving you the confidence to do so.
The current range includes 25 different pack, offering lesson learning outside the classroom lesson plans and ideas for English, History, Science and Maths, as well as early years Literacy, Maths, understanding the world and expressive Arts and Design.
